The state played a significant role in westward expansion and was a crucial part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. Its industrial growth in the 20th century solidified its nickname as the “Crossroads of America.”

Sports in Indiana

This is the state that gave America Hoosier Hysteria — a basketball culture so deep it’s part of Indiana’s identity — plus the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and serious baseball, softball, and football traditions. When Hoosier clubs want competition outside their home circuits, they head north.

Wisconsin Sports Services hosts them in the Madison area: youth basketball including the 2027 Girls State Tournament, the 2027 Boys State Tournament, and The State Circuit — plus baseball, softball, flag football, and lacrosse. Northwest Indiana reaches Madison in about three hours. Open events are on our Indiana service area page and the Events calendar.
